Hotel / Accomodation Refurbishment

One of our core elements within our business is the refurbishment of Hotel rooms, Hotel corridors, Hotel reception areas and all other forms of accommodation units that are commonly found on holiday villages.

This type of work needs a dedicated and highly trained team who are able to work alongside the public / paying guests.

The majority of the time that we are working in this nature the venue is open so we need to work almost invisibly whilst still achieving our targets.

Taking all of this into account we need to be faultless health & safety wise, all customer inter-action bust be nothing short of professional and our general appearance and conduct must be impeccable.

To give a true perspective we recently fulfilled a project were ten reasonably sized accommodation chalets (2 bedrooms, bathroom, hall, lounge & kitchen) needed to be fully refurbished. We had a time period of 11 days to complete 10 chalets. Tasks included the removal of existing fixtures & fittings, the over-skimming of ceilings and walls, the installation of new skirting boards, new ironmongery, new carpets & vinyl's, mirrors, wardrobes, sofa beds, and the fitment of a new modern kitchen complete with new appliances and worktops. It was also necessary to up-grade the electrical circuits and plumbing pipe work.

We did this scheme for a total of seventy five chalets; the strict schedule dictated working seven days a week with a rest period of only two days between each 11 day cycle.
In essence we carried out a full comprehensive package and handed it back to our client "Butlins" clean and ready for guests to move back into.

This strict deadline could never be compromised as the units were literally booked out and occupied the very next day. We pride ourselves on the facts that we have always handed over all units on the agreed dates.

The above paragraph outlines what Castle undertakes from an internal point of view. We do however refurbish and maintain the outside of Hotels and Chalets as well.

In recent years we have carried out works to over four hundred units.

One particular project was to externally paint a whole three storey village. To make matters more testing this had to be done in Winter!

Due to logistical restraints and uneven terrain we needed to gain access to the third floors by using various methods, these included scaffolding, cherry pickers and also scissor lifts.
Whilst we had access plant on site we took the opportunity to repair all gutter and downspout leaks and replaced any damaged / loose Tudor boarding.

Large teams of tradesmen were deployed and fully supervised, these numbers had to be managed on a week by week basis as the weather literally dictated whether we could apply paints or not. Intelligent solutions were applied such as sheeting up and also the use of specialist paints that could withstand colder conditions.

These works transformed the whole village; it was remarkable when you compared a completed accommodation block to the units next door that had not yet been started.
On the same Butlins village we also re-rendered the bottom third of every single block. This was undertaken using a product called Hi-build.

Again doing this project in the winter months caused all kinds of management hassles.

The process had to be regimental as some units needed the existing materials removing back to the original building structure. New cement boards, vapour barriers, sand cement render, mesh, bell beads and Hi build all needed to be applied whilst catering for the weather conditions.

Following on from these previous schemes we were thankfully contracted to carry out some more maintenance works that could not be affected by the weather.

Our task was to replace all fascia, barge boards, balcony walkway soffits, windows, external doors and large entrance pediments all with P.V.C goods.

This was undertaken on all of the accommodation blocks that are occupied by Butlins direct staff who permanently live on resort. Most units are two storeys high and are quite consistent in design.

Without exaggerating we latterly fitted a few miles worth of pvc goods. All works were again fully supervised, signed off by our clients and any defects rectified without delay.

This investment in PVC has saved Butlins thousands of pounds and countless maintenance hours.

So whether it is electrical upgrades, new kitchens, carpet replacement, tarmac painting or external works Castle certainly has the experience and flexibility to take on these works.
